Different causes means that there are no one-size-fits-all snoring solutions. Each person needs to determine their unique reason the condition has cropped up and find the best product or remedy designed for that problem.
What Makes Us Snore?
That sound that seems to have emanated from a freight train in the middle of the night is really the sound of tissue in our breathing passages vibrating because our airflow is having to work past an obstruction or a narrowing of that passage.
The obstruction could be simple congestion as we battle a seasonal allergy. When we sleep, air enters through our noses (although some folks sleep with their mouths open and air enters that way, too), down through the pathways in our throat and to our lungs. Then we exhale.
If your adenoids become larger than normal or if your throat becomes thick with mucous, the rate at which you take air in remains fairly constant but now that air is fighting something in its way and having to flow through a smaller opening. That rattles the surrounding tissue and, believe it or not, that vibration comes out as a really loud noise.
In order to stop your snoring, you need to find the snoring causes that apply to you and then fix those problems. If you snore because you sleep with your chin curled into your chest and this is pushing down on your neck at night, you might need a chin strap or special pillow to keep your jaw extended while you sleep.
